Attraverso una “spina dorsale”, lungo la quale sono disposti i nuovi edifici, le aree vengono riunificate e connesse tra loro. La “pelle” è l’elemento di unificazione tra tutti i vari spazi, che ricopre e avvolge gli edifici vecchi e nuovi creando un involucro strutturale che è allo stesso tempo un rivestimento esterno innovativo ed originale. Il padiglione princi-pale è situato a sud dell’ingresso, in posizione inclinata rispetto agli edifici esistenti in modo da creare uno spazio pubblico e di ristoro nel mezzo. E’ stata scelta una struttura che sia al contempo economica ed elegante, un sistema strutturale costituito da un mezzo portale in acciaio sostenuto dalla facciata stessa alle estremità. Il progetto è stato fatto in collaborazione con WilkinsonEyre Architects e FGArchitetti.

Along main connection element, the ‘spine’, the new buildings are attached and different areas are linked and connected together. The ‘skin’ is the element which joins all these individual spaces together. It covers, wraps around and over the new and existing buildings creating one structural envelope as well as an innovative and original outer shell. The biggest exhibition pavilion is situated south of the entrance and ‘turned away’ from the existing buildings in order to create a public space and café area between them. We have chosen a structure that is both economical and elegant. The basic building component is a half portal frame, made of steel, propped by the façade at its tip. The project has been developed in collaboration with Wilkinson Eyre Architects and FGArchitetti.
